Yale Keyfree Doors
Yale – the famous lock-maker, not the
university – will now sell you an entire door instead of just the lock
which keeps it closed. The design of these fiberglass doors is
traditional, but the security features inside will make getting into
your house more like getting into your car.
The “Keyfree” Yale Doors come with a wireless lock unit that can be
operated by PIN (multiple codes are supported) or by using the wireless
key-fob, just like you would with your car. If anybody tinkers with the
lock and enters the wrong PIN, an 80dB alarm will screech a warning and
rattle the nerves of your neighbors.
This is all great news for paranoid England, where the doors are
available (£715, or $1000, plus another $284 or $400 for the
lock), and will help keep the hoodie-wearing, alcohol-addicted
teenagers from your lushly-carpeted interiors. Better for the English
market, though, is the range of old-fashioned styles. The English, as a
nation, hate anything new or modern (just ask Prince Charles). These
doors will be just the thing to keep those faux-Tudor semi-detached
homes safe from both burglars and from the neighbors’ scorn.
